Greater Vine City Opportunities Program Inc. (GVCOP) , a 501C-3 non-profit organization has recently purchased Historic English Avenue Elementary School (May 2010) which is a 50,000 square ft. edifice that sits on 3 acres of land to convert and operate into a State of the Arts, Green Technology, Global Community Center.  It is GVCOP prayer that this endeavor will merit the trust and confidence of the surrounding neighborhoods and larger Atlanta area. We will provide a dynamic multidisciplinary range of services, and space to meet the intergenerational needs of the English Avenue neighborhood and serve as an Economic engine for jobs, training, research and development, businesses and empowerment throughout Atlanta. Some of the amenities to be included in this world class development are as follows: 1. Performing Arts Theatre/ Art Studios and Gallery 2. Community Meeting Space 3. English Avenue Community

The English Avenue neighborhood is a community with a rich heritage and lasting capital vested in its people. Our boundaries are Norfolk Southern rail corridor to the east, Donald Lee Hollowell to the north, Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard to the west and Joseph Boone to the south.   English Avenue is located in the Neighborhood Planning Unit L (NPU), the City of Atlanta Westside Tax Allocation District and the Atlanta Renewal Community (ACORA) area. It is affectionately called the “Westside” by long-term residents. One of the jewel public facilities and institutions in English Avenue is the English Avenue Elementary School located at 627 English Avenue, N.W. Atlanta Georgia 30318. English Avenue Elementary was constructed in 1910 with 4 subsequent expansions, and sits on 3.2 acres of land. For the past 20 years, the Greater Vine City Opportunities Program (GVCOP), Inc. has been diligently working to support the revitalization of the Historic English Avenue and Vine City neighborhoods in West Atlanta. Our primary objective is to improve the quality of life for our residents through financial literacy, employment preparation, entrepreneurship, technological training, veteran services, social empowerment resources and general economic sustainability programs. The purchase of the historic English Avenue School by GVCOP in May, 2010 was a milestone for the organization and for the neighborhood. With National Historic Registration placement pending, the three-acre, 50,000 sq. ft. facility is paid for in full. Nevertheless, an extensive overhaul is required before it can be converted into a state-of-the-art, green technology, global community center. INVEST Atlanta, chaired by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, has kicked off this capital campaign with a One Million Dollar ($1,000,000) Award. Now we need your support to match the funds.
